Lip Lift

The lips are a central feature of the face involved in beauty and expression. There has been much attention to lip plumping with injectable fillers. Fillers have limits which may be augmented with a lip lift.

What is a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is an upper lip enhancing surgery to shorten the distance from the red lip (vermillion) to the nose. A long appearing upper lip may present naturally from birth, or may develop over time with age. The lip lift serves to increase the appearance of the height of the vermillion relative to the upper lip skin to the nose. The effect curls up the lip when viewed from the front.

Who Can Have a Lip Lift?

Patients with a relatively long upper lip appearance benefit from a lip lift. If neuromodulator injections or fillers have been used before, it is ideal to wait until they have gone completely to accurately measure the change.

Good general health is required and patients should not smoke.

What to Expect From Lip Lift Surgery

The procedure is generally performed awake under local anesthesia. This may also be performed under sedation. Your lip height will be measured and marked to the ideal height.

The surgery itself lasts 1-2 hours. You will have multiple small sutures that will need to be removed 1-2 weeks after surgery. Deeper dissolving sutures will remain up to 1 month.

You will be asked to refrain from heavy exercise for 1 week.

You may wear makeup to camouflage the healing scar after 2 weeks.
